Dr. Reece is a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Redding, California

for his patients and as a PUBLIC SERVICE for those interested in skin diseases.
Dr. Reece now provides hair removal with the Photoderm VL/PL/HR.
- HOW DOES THE NEW PHOTODERM VL/PL/HR WORK?
This remarkable machine "zaps" unwanted hair with a light source similar to a laser. This laser-like device produces a high energy flash of light that passes safely through normal skin. The light is absorbed by the hair bulb and converted into heat within the hair. The hair is dissolved and then absorbed by the body. The Photoderm does not emit harmful radiation.
- IS THE HAIR REMOVAL PERMANENT?
No hair removal device guarantees complete hair removal. The Photoderm VL/PL/HR will provide long term hair removal of 60-80% of hairs after 3 treatments. The hairs that may return after the treatments will be less in number and usually finer in texture. This compared to electrolysis, which takes multiple lengthy, often painful sessions, that usually take place over several years is an exciting advancement in hair removal technology.
- DOES THE PHOTODERM HAIR REMOVAL HURT?
The Photoderm VL/PL/HR treatments feel like a rubber band snapping the skin with a temporary stinging sensation afterwards. The treatment is mildly to moderately uncomfortable. Anaesthetic creams, can be used for this discomfort if you would prefer. Most patients require no medications for the treatment.
- WHAT SKIN TYPES AND HAIRS ARE BEST REMOVED WITH THE PHOTODERM LV/PL/HR?
Light skin patients with darker hair are the best candidates for hair removal. However, the Photoderm VL/PL/HR can treat most skin types and color of hair; although, more treatments than 3 may be necessary for very light hair.
- ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
The treated areas may have temporary redness that usually lasts less than a week. Welts, bruising, or an occasional blister may rarely occur. Also, rarely the treated areas may heal with increased or decreased pigmentation (light or darker areas). Most discoloration fades in 1-3 months. Scars are possible, but are exceptionally rare. Avoid sun tanning 4 weeks before and after treatments.
- WHAT DO THE TREATMENTS COST?
We have per treatment cost and package prices of three treatments. Long term hair removal is best had with three treatments.
